LOWER CAPE MAY REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL
Mascot: Lady Tigers
Conference: Cape-Atlantic National
2016-17 Record: 14-13
Head coach: Scott Douglass
Assistant coaches: Greg Douglass, Pam Levin, Karl Geisinger
Returning players: Seniors – Jenna Durbin (5-4 G), Olivia Levin (5-6 G), Tayanis Torres (5-5 G); Sophomore – Winter Favre (5-7 G/F).
Top newcomers: Juniors – Melani Amador (5-7 F); Anna Bella Halbruner (5-6 G); Sophomores – Helena Roesing (5-7 F), Carina Raymond (5-4 G); Freshman – Chloe Lawler (5-8 F).
Strengths: Guard play, overall team speed, defense
Weaknesses: Size, scoring punch
Outlook: All of Lower Cape May’s post players graduated last season, leaving the team with a guard-heavy lineup for the new season. Olivia Levin returns after missing the final month of last season with a knee injury. She was averaging about 13 points per game at the time of her injury. Jenna Durbin and Tayanis Torres are defensive specialists, while Winter Favre figures to show offensive growth after seeing varsity action as a freshman. Lower doesn’t have great overall offensive firepower but will rely on better-than-average team speed and defense to stay competitive with most of the teams on its schedule. The Lady Tigers will shoot for another winning season and could challenge for CAL playoff berth for the second straight season.
Season opener: Friday vs. Millville, 7 pm
