Charles Fields has proven to be one of the top track athletes in the state over the past couple of seasons. He continued to display his talents Monday at the South Jersey Non-Public B sectional meet at Donovan Catholic High School.
Fields, a senior, won the 100-meter dash on the first of the two-day competition.
Fields, who won state 100, 200 and long jump titles as a junior last season, posted a time of 11.02 seconds to comfortably win the event ahead of second-place Isaiah McClain of Mater Dei Prep (11.38). Fields’ brother, Caleb, placed fourth in 11.53 seconds.
Classmate Rakim Coyle also enjoyed a solid day at the meet. He placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 42 feet, 2 ¾ inches. Mohamed Diagourga of Trenton Catholic won the event at 44-7. Coyle also set a new program record time of 50.5 seconds in a third-place finish in the 400 meters.
Another Wildwood Catholic athlete, Chris Johnson placed fourth in the boys 1600 in 4:46.94.
On the girls side, Wildwood Catholic’s Joelle Osborne was third in the 400 hurdles in 1:11.99 and Julia Sorensen finished fourth in the 1600 in 5:28.22.
