OCHS sophomore Faith Slimmer on All-American Soccer Watch List

By TOM WILLIAMS

Ocean City High School sophomore Faith Slimmer is one of 36 girls soccer players from New Jersey to be named to the All-American Watch List by TopDrawerSoccer.com.

Slimmer, one of five New Jersey sophomores on the list, scored 21 goals last year to lead OCHS scoring as the Raiders won the South Jersey Group 3 championship and tied a school record with 19 victories. She also had eight assists.

The only Cape-Atlantic League player on the girls list, she has already committed to Rutgers University.

“It is basically a verbal commitment because of her age,” said Ocean City coach Kelly Halliday. “Rutgers has a very competitive Division 1 program. She is very excited.”

Rutgers plays in the Big 10. Jenna Sayers, a junior from Oakcrest, is currently playing soccer at Rutgers. Her father, Frank, was a great athlete at Ocean City High School in the 1980s.

One CAL boys soccer player was also listed among the All-American Watch List – senior Jack Sarkos of Mainland, who will attend Lehigh.

Slimmer is one of many players returning from last year’s South Jersey champions. The team will also benefit from the healthy return of senior Tori Rolls, who missed last season after leading the team in scoring as a freshman and sophomore.

Halliday’s Raiders will open the season on Tuesday afternoon at Cedar Creek.
