The Middle Township High School soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to Absegami in extra time in the season opener for both teams played Tuesday afternoon under hot, humid conditions.

Middle Township had a couple of good chances in the final 10 minutes of regulation but could not covert. Absegami’s Matt Otalvaro then scored from 10 yards in front of goal less than two minutes into extra time for the golden goal.

Braiden Scarpa made 10 saves in goal, including a wonderful diving stop to his right with about 22 minutes remaining in regulation.
