Catching up with some former Cape May County high school athletes now competing at the college level …
Joe Fala (junior-Ramapo soccer-MTHS) scored both goals, including the winner from the penalty spot in extra time, to propel the Roadrunners to a 2-1 win over 19th-ranked TCNJ over the weekend. The goals were Fala’s 11th and 12th on the season, tops on in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Ramapo entered this week at 8-0 overall, 2-0 in the NJAC. …
Marissa McGaffney (sophomore-Drew soccer-LCMR) has started all eight games as a defender for the Rangers, who played to a 1-1 draw at Goucher College over the weekend. Drew took a record of 5-1-2 into this week, with all five victories coming by shutout. …
Summer Sides (junior-Neumann soccer-MTHS) and Jen Collins (sophomore-Neumann soccer-WHS) have each been contributors for the Knights this fall. Sides has contributed an assist while playing in six games with five starts, while Collins has played in seven games with three starts. Neumann entered this week at 3-5 overall. …
Nik Anagnou (freshman-Rowan College at Gloucester County-MTHS) was named Garden State Athletic Conference Division III Player of the Week earlier this month after posting a shutout win over Bucks County College. RCGC entered this week at 4-5 overall. …
Rialee Allen (sophomore-LaSalle field hockey-OCHS) is tied for the team lead with four goals and teammate Shannon O’Reilly (freshman-LaSalle field hockey-OCHS) has contributed two assists for the Explorers through nine games. Both players have started in every game so far this season. LaSalle, which is coming off a 3-2 overtime win over Vermont, entered this week at 4-5 overall, 0-2 Atlantic 10. …
Kelly Hanna (senior-Monmouth field hockey-OCHS) scored with only 24 seconds to play to lift the the Hawks to a dramatic 3-2 victory over Bucknell on Sunday. Hanna, who was given Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors earlier this month, leads the team in goals with six and points with 14. Monmouth entered this week at 5-5 overall. …
Brianne Nicholas (junior-Ursinus field hockey-LCMR) was recently named Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week after netting five goals over a recent two-game stretch for the Bears. Nicholas leads the team in goals (5) and points (11). Ursinus entered this week at 5-2 overall, 3-0 in conference play. …
Madie Gibson (redshirt junior-Monmouth soccer-LCMR) scored twice in the Hawks’ 9-0 win over St. Peters over the weekend. Gibson has three goals and three assists for the season. Monmouth entered this week at 6-3-1 overall, 1-1-0 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. …
Wes Hills (senior-Slippery Rock football-WHS) sat out his second straight game this weekend after picking up a shoulder injury early in the team’s 25-21 loss to Shippensburg earlier this month. Hills rushed for 164 yards and a touchdown and also caught three passes in the team’s 38-31 win over Kentucky State to open the season. Hills then suffered his injury on his second carry in the game against Shippensburg. He is expected to return to action this season. Slippery Rock is 3-1 overall. …
Jared Irwin (senior-Cabrini soccer-WHS), Sal Zampirri (senior-Cabrini soccer-WCHS), Ray Wilson (sophomore-Cabrini soccer-MTHS), Anthony Zampirri (sophomore-Cabrini soccer-WCHS) and Beck Lindsay (freshman-Cabrini soccer-WCHS) have each been contributors for the Cavaliers this season. Anthony Zampirri has started six of the team’s eight games in goal, conceding just six goals. He has two shutouts. Sal Zampirri has played in five games and contributed one assist, while Wilson has started all eight games, Irwin has played in seven games with four starts and Lindsay has seen action in two games as a substitute. Cabrini entered this week at 2-5-1 overall. …
Christian Rafter (sophomore-Rosemont soccer-MTHS) posted a goal and an assist in a 5-0 win over Bryn Athyn over the weekend. He has a team-best seven points on two goals and three assists for the Ravens. Rafter has played in all seven games, with six starts. Rosemont entered this week at 3-4 overall, 1-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
