Tori Rolls selects Montclair State – both OCHS soccer teams lose one-goal decisions to Williamstown

By TOM WILLIAMS

Tori Rolls, the three-sport Ocean City High School athlete, has decided to continue her education as a soccer player at Montclair State University.

Rolls led OCHS in scoring during both her freshmen and sophomore years before a broken collarbone forced her to miss the soccer season her junior year.

She is a starter on the South Jersey champion girls basketball team and a multiple champion in track.

Montclair State, currently undefeated in womens soccer through five games, was 8-7 last year. The Red Hawks play in the New Jersey Athletic Conference where they play both Stockton and Rowan.

Today, Rolls assisted on two goals – by Faith Slimmer and Hope Slimmer – but the Raiders (4-2-1) lost to Williamstown, 4-3. Delaney Lappin scored the other goal with an assist by Faith Slimmer.

The OCHS boys (3-1) also lost to Williamstown, 2-1, on a penalty kick. The Raiders had to play the last 15 minutes a player short. Hunter Paone scored his third goal of the season with an assist from his brother, Trevor. Brian Calderon made 10 saves in goal.

The OCHS boys soccer team travels to Chester, PA, on Monday night to play St. Augustine Prep at Talen Energy Stadium, the $80 million stadium that is the home field for the Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer. The stadium, which seats 18,000, hosts high school and college games when the Union is not playing. St. Augustine comes into the game 4-0. The Raiders return to conference play on Wednesday at Oakcrest and are back home (Tennessee Avenue) Friday against West Deptford.

The Ocean City girls soccer team goes to Haddonfield (3-0-1) on Monday night and will host Oakcrest at Carey Stadium Wednesday night.
