WILDWOOD CREST — The grammar school basketball Island Tournament concluded Sunday at the Crest Pier Recreation Center with each of the four participating schools earning one championship apiece.
The annual event is held among the four grammar schools of the Wildwoods — Margaret Mace, Cape Trinity Catholic, Wildwood and Crest Memorial. The tournament includes separate brackets for grades 5-6 boys, grades 7-8 girls, grades 5-6 girls and grades 7-8 girls. The event also includes the popular Skills Competition. This year’s Skills Competition was won by Margaret Mace.
The following are the results from four championship games:
Junior Varsity Girls – Margaret Mace 17, Cape Trinity Catholic 7: Angie Wilber scored five points and Brigid Peters and Kiana D’Antuono each chipped in four points for Mace, which built a 12-point halftime lead. Evnagelina Catanese scored four points in the loss.
Junior Varsity Boys – Crest Memorial 34, Wildwood 27: Jack Kurtz canned 13 points and Amine Cherifi chipped in six points for the Crest. Jordan Dozier pumped in 14 points and Trevor Troiano added seven points in the loss.
Varsity Girls – Cape Trinity Catholic 32, Margaret Mace 23: Dani Shaw hit three second-half three-pointers and scored 11 points and Kaci Mikulski added eight points for Cape Trinity. Ella McCabe’s 10 points and Macie McCracken’s seven points led Margaret Mace.
Varsity Boys – Wildwood 64, Crest Memorial 34: Junior Hans collected 21 points and Harley Buscham posted 17 points for the winners. Brian Cunniff scored seven points and John McAllister and Jack DelMonte each added six for the Crest.
