VIDEO: Seniors shine as Middle runs past Cape Tech

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — The Cape May Tech boys basketball team held its Senior Night festivities ahead of Tuesday’s home game.

Middle Township’s seniors, however, went out and stole the show.

Seniors Miles Sapp (left), T.J. Harris (center) and Matt Marino led Middle Township to a victory over Cape May Tech.

With T.J. Harris, Matt Marino and Miles Sapp playing pivotal roles, Middle blitzed the Hawks, 65-38.

Middle (9-11) jumped on Cape May Tech from the start, racing out to a 19-3 lead after one quarter. The Hawks got their only points of the period on an Orlando Torres three-pointer midway through the quarter.

Middle, meanwhile, knocked down four three-pointers and forced nine Cape May Tech turnovers in the quarter.

Middle eventually led 28-12 at the half, limiting Tech (8-12) to only four field goals in the first half.

“Sometimes you want to see who’s going to get the first loose ball and who’s going to get that first contested rebound. You want to see that aggressiveness right away,” Middle coach Tom Feraco said. “I thought we passed that test right at the start.

Marino led all scorers with 19 points. Harris tallied 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Sapp added eight points and 12 rebounds for Middle. Junior Jeremiah Camacho was also in double figures for the winners with 10 points.

“We do have some athletes,” Feraco said. “I like knowing our three senior (starters) went off a little in this game.”

Torres led Cape May Tech with 11 points.

Middle’s victory avenged an overtime loss to the Hawks last month.
