WILDWOOD CREST – Athletes and fans packed the tiny deck at the Joseph Von Savage Memorial Pool Tuesday afternoon to see two Cape May County rivals square off in a coed high school swim meet.
Cape May Tech displayed its superior depth in racing to a 97-73 victory over Wildwood Catholic.
Cooper Gehring and Tyler Flynn led the Hawks (3-1) with three first-place finishes apiece. Gehring He won the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke and Flynn took first in the 50 and 100 freestyle. Gehring and Flynn were also part of the winning 200 medley relay team along with Jerry DiAntonio and Chris Porto. Corbin Sturgeon (200 freestyle), Lindsay Robbins (500 freestyle) and DiAntonio (100 breaststroke) also won individual events for Cape May Tech.
Sam Francis won the 100 butterfly for Wildwood Catholic (1-3). He also joined Chris Johnson, Cameron Denham and Taylor Ohntrup for first place in the 200 free relay. Johnson, Ohntrup, Grace Stuart and Phil Pfaffman won the 400 free relay for the Crusaders.
