Three Cape May County teams are scheduled to play in the 18th annual Shoot Down Cancer Classic this weekend at St. Augustine Prep.
Wildwood Catholic, Middle Township and Ocean City will each participate in the boys basketball showcase event this Saturday and Sunday.
Wildwood Catholic (10-0) will face Haddonfield (10-0) on Saturday at 2:15 p.m. in a game that features the only two remaining unbeaten teams in South Jersey. Both teams are ranked among the top 10 in South Jersey by various media polls.
Ocean City (7-3) and Middle Township (7-4) will each play Sunday. The Raiders will face Pitman at 11 a.m. and the Panthers will go against Paul VI.
Other South Jersey powers such as host St. Augustine, Eastern, Atlantic City and Winslow Township are also scheduled to participate.
The Shoot Down Cancer Classic was previously known as the Olympic Cape Challenge, which matched teams from the Olympic Conference against teams from the Cape-Atlantic League. The name was changed to the Shoot Down Cancer Classic in 2015 and has included teams from various conferences throughout South Jersey, as well as other teams from across the state and southeastern Pennsylvania.
All proceeds from the event go to the Oncology Division at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
According to the event’s website, the Shoot Down Cancer Foundation has donated more than $300,000 to Children’s Hospital since its inception.
