Wildwood High to honor former coach

Former longtime Wildwood High School girls basketball coach Dave Troiano is set to be honored by the school following a girls basketball game on Tuesday, Feb. 13.

The event will take place immediately following the game against Pennsville at 4 p.m. Refreshments will be served in the Wildwood High School cafeteria following the ceremony. Wildwood is also scheduled to play a varsity boys games against Pennsville at 5:30.

In addition to a long, distinguished career as a teacher at the school, Troiano coached girls basketball at Wildwood for 39 years, compiling a career record of 682-326. He is one of only four high school girls basketball coaches to coach at least 1,000 career games.

Troiano guided Wildwood to four state championships, nine South Jersey titles and numerous division and/or conference championships in the Cape-Atlantic League and Tri-County Conference.

Troiano resigned as coach in the fall, about six weeks prior to the current season.

Tickets to the games are $3 for adults, $2 for children. The ceremony and the reception to follow in the cafeteria are included.
