Two large basketball events in area this weekend

There will be lots of basketball played in the southern part of Cape May County this weekend.

A pair of AAU basketball tournaments are scheduled for the area, with games played in various locations in the Wildwoods and Lower Township.

The Scoop Taylor Summer Slam, now in its 23rd year, is an all-girls basketball event for 72 teams ranging from entering grade 4 to entering grade 11 in the fall. Teams hail from all over the tri-state area and beyond. A handful of games are scheduled for Friday evening, with the bulk of the tournament taking place Saturday and Sunday. Games are being played on nine different courts — five in the Wildwoods and four in Middle Township. Some local teams are scheduled to compete.

Also this weekend is the inaugural Wildwood Beach Bash Tournament, hosted by the U.S. Junior Nationals organization. The tournament is set to be played on eight courts at the Wildwoods Convention Center.

The Beach Bash tournament is set to bring approximately 80 boys and girls teams from seven different states to the area. Some local teams are among the participants. Teams ranging from 12 and under through 17 and under will compete.
