98.7 The Coast, CoastSportsToday.com to broadcast 6 local high school football games

Live broadcasts of Cape May County high school football are set to begin next week.

For the 16th straight year, 98.7 The Coast WCZT Radio is set to broadcast football games involving Lower Cape May, Middle Township and Wildwood high schools.

All told, six games are on the station’s broadcast schedule. All six broadcasts are also tentatively set to include a live video stream on CoastSportsToday.com.

High school football season will look much different in 2020, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. The start of the regular season was delayed until the first weekend in October. And high school football teams in New Jersey will play a maximum of six regular-season games.

The 98.7 The Coast broadcast schedule begins with Wildwood hosting Pitman on Friday, Oct. 2, at 6 pm.

That’s followed by two straight Middle Township games, first at home against Schalick on Friday, Oct. 9, at 7 pm, followed by the school’s Homecoming contest against Pennsville on Friday, Oct. 16, at 6 pm.

Then it’s two straight Lower Cape May games, with the Caper Tigers hosting Oakcrest on Friday, Oct. 23, before another home contest against Bridgeton on Friday, Oct. 30. Both of those games are 7 pm starts.

The broadcast schedule culminates with the annual season-ending Anchor Bowl when Lower Cape May travels to Middle Township. However, instead of being played on Thanksgiving Day as it’s been every season since 1996, this year’s Anchor Bowl is set for Thanksgiving Eve (Wednesday, Nov. 25) at 6 pm.

Brian Cunniff and Buddy Tarbotton will provide the live-by-play coverage.
